We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer. Please send every data protection request to the address above.

The Controller is established in Poland, so the processing described here is governed by Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). This policy describes the rights the GDPR gives you and applies wherever you read the site from.

2. What data we collect

a) Data you send us

  • Contact form: your name, email address, subject and the content of your message

b) Data collected automatically

  • Technical data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, screen resolution, time of the visit, pages viewed
  • Cookies — see section 7

We do not ask you to create an account and we do not collect payment data.

3. Why we process it

  • To answer messages sent through the contact form
  • To provide and technically operate the website
  • To produce anonymous traffic statistics
  • To keep the site secure and to prevent abuse

4. Legal bases

  • Article 6(1)(a) GDPR — your consent (contact form, cookies other than necessary ones)
  • Article 6(1)(b) GDPR — steps taken at your request before entering into a contract
  • Article 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest (security of the service, statistics, establishing or defending legal claims)

Providing personal data is voluntary, but the contact form cannot be sent without it.

5. Who receives the data and transfers outside the EEA

Personal data may be made available to the following categories of recipients:

  • Providers of hosting and content delivery services
  • Providers of analytics tools
  • Providers of artificial intelligence services used to produce content
  • Public authorities, where the law requires it

Some of these providers are established in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, the transfer is based on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission (Article 46(2)(c) GDPR) or on an adequacy decision (EU-US Data Privacy Framework, Article 45 GDPR).

6. Withdrawing consent

Where processing is based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before it. Send your withdrawal to kontakt@thedailylosangelesnews.com.

7. Cookies

This website uses cookies. Because the Controller is established in the European Union, we ask for your consent before setting any cookie that is not strictly necessary, as required by the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC) as implemented in Poland.

  • Necessary: required for the site to work — no consent needed
  • Analytics: anonymous measurement of visits — consent required
  • Functional: remember your settings, for example the color theme — consent required

On your first visit you are told about cookies and asked to choose. Consent is voluntary and you can withdraw it at any time. You can also manage cookies in your browser settings; turning off necessary cookies may break parts of the site.

8. How long we keep the data

  • Contact form: until the correspondence is finished, and no longer than 12 months
  • Technical data: no longer than 12 months

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (Article 15 GDPR)
  • Have inaccurate data corrected (Article 16 GDPR)
  • Have data erased — the "right to be forgotten" (Article 17 GDPR)
  • Restrict processing (Article 18 GDPR)
  • Data portability (Article 20 GDPR)
  • Object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Article 21 GDPR)
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before the withdrawal (Article 7(3) GDPR)

To exercise these rights, write to kontakt@thedailylosangelesnews.com. We respond without undue delay and no later than one month after we receive the request.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority competent for the Controller is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych), ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw, Poland, https://uodo.gov.pl. If you live in the European Economic Area, you may also complain to the supervisory authority in your own country.

10. Data security

We apply appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted transmission (SSL/TLS), regular backups and access control.

11. Data breaches

If a personal data breach is likely to result in a high risk to your rights and freedoms, we inform you without undue delay (Article 34 GDPR). We report a breach to the supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, unless the breach is unlikely to result in a risk to the rights and freedoms of individuals (Article 33 GDPR).

12. Automated decision-making and profiling

We do not carry out automated decision-making, including profiling within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR, that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you.

13. Content made with artificial intelligence

A part of the content on this website is produced with artificial intelligence tools, and every article made this way carries a notice above the text. No personal data of visitors is processed in that work, and your data is not used to train artificial intelligence models.

14. Children

This website is not directed to people under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes are announced on the website at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the website after that date means the updated policy applies.
